Abstract
This is a timely and insightful text for practitioners and academics
alike interested in nighttime economies and related tourism topics.
Timely in that the study of nighttime economies is an emerging and
multi-faceted field of research and that this text offers case studies and
researched insights into the journeys of certain destinations that have
adopted nighttime tourism primarily as an economic development
strategy, for better or worse. A prominent theme of extant nightlife
literature has been the conflicts that can arise through the colonization
of urban spaces by nocturnal tourism activities. This text visits this
theme from novel and thought-provoking viewpoints beyond the typical
and somewhat over-hyped impacts of hedonistic behaviours associated
with nightclubs and consumption of alcohol.
