Abstract
Prepared by researchers from the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, this report provides a comprehensive overview of tourism in Australia, from conceptual frameworks in which to view tourism through to detailed discussion of the major issues facing governments and industry operators. Key topics covered include the dynamic nature of the tourism business; foreign investment in tourism; the structure of the accommodation sector; and the sustainability of tourism. The growing interdependence of Australian tourism with international tourism systems is a theme running throughout the report. The authors note that planning, development and management of tourism in Australia must be conducted in this context if it is to be successful. [Book Synopsis]
