Abstract
Quality of life (QOL) is a subjective phenomenon infl uenced by an individual's environment and experiences (Andereck, Valentine, Vogt & Knopf, 2007; Liburd, Benckendorff & Carlsen, 2012). Grounded in the discipline of psychology, QOL is often equated with life satisfaction, life progression or overall wellness ( Moscardo, 2009). QOL may also be viewed from a community-wide perspective, with previous studies taking into consideration issues such as environmental quality, per capita income, life expectancy and other health and well-being (Andereck & Nyaupane, 2011; Cummins 1996; Uysal, Sirgy, Woo & Kim, 2015).
