Sex, sexuality and sexual relations are hotly debated topics in Indonesia, triggering complex and often emotional responses. This book explores these topics in a variety of ways. First, it highlights the history and new forms of sexual diversity, including emerging responses. Second, to criticize different representations of sexuality by showing the diversity of discourse on how sexuality and 'the sexual' are understood in the context of modern Indonesia. By placing sexuality at the center and putting it in the context of the history of the Reformation era, this volume explores cross-site meanings and practices, focusing on the various groups and contested sexual meanings. Beginning with a substantive introduction and summed up with a critical critical reflection the main issues, the framework of this book covers four main themes: sexual politics, health, diversity and representation. This book presents new empirical findings and also contributes to theoretical analysis. This book fills the gaps in our understanding of the evolution and contemporary dynamics of sexuality in Indonesia. Scientists and academics from the discipline of gender studies and sexuality, global health, sexual and reproductive health, anthropology, sociology and Asian studies need to read this important and interesting book.
