Abstract
The Sundarbans, the world’s largest contiguous mangrove forest, is a critical ecosystem facing significant threats from climate change, sea-level rise, and human activities. This study introduces a cloud-based web application developed using Google Earth Engine (GEE) to monitor and analyse the Sundarbans’ vegetation and hydrological dynamics. The application integrates remote sensing indices such as the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and the Normalised Difference Water Index (NDWI), along with rainfall data, to provide an interactive platform for tracking forest health, water body changes, and precipitation patterns over time. Key features include time-series analyses, split-panel visualisations for temporal comparisons, and rainfall distribution mapping. This innovative tool empowers researchers and policymakers with data-driven insights for sustainable forest management and conservation planning. By utilising cloud computing and geospatial data, the study underscores the potential of integrating advanced technologies to address environmental challenges in fragile ecosystems like the Sundarbans.
