Abstract
This chapter presents the financial situation in Greece and the (in)ability to pay the bills. It provides an outline of the weak energy governance in Greece, the opportunities lost and the high potential for the situation to improve as long as certain measures are adopted. United nations development program is using Sustainable Development Indicators and Goals to measure achievements related to sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goal 7, however, related to sustainable energy, needs more discussion. However, while reduction of electricity coming from solid fuels can lead to sustainable energy supply, clean growth, sustainable cities and sustainable industrialisation. Researches have demonstrated that education and dissemination of information, not only on technical aspects but also on behavioural components, can play a significant role in turning consumers into users with energy efficiency practices and mindset. The financial crisis in Greece caused lower family income, poverty and unemployment which resulted, among others, to a substantially lower energy use per capita.
