Abstract
The chapter focuses on the management of digital technology, such as smartphones and tablets, in outdoor education. It highlights the affordances and constantly evolving nature of digital tools within this field. It emphasises the need for intentional, systematic, and evidence-based (ISE) decision-making and management in outdoor education, suggesting that ISE is increasingly becoming the standard for handling digital tools in hazardous outdoor environments. The chapter highlights the 'digital technology in outdoor education' framework to facilitate this process. It outlines the development of the framework, introduces the latest version, offers some applications, recognises its limitations, and identifies the next steps in the framework's evolution.
