Abstract
This chapter provides a comprehensive exploration of magnetorheological shear thickening fluid (MRSTF), which is a type of smart material exhibiting unique rheological properties in response to magnetic fields or shear conditions. Focusing on their applications in damping systems, shock absorbers, and the innovative magnetorheological shear thickening polishing (MRSTP) process, the study delves into the fundamental properties of MRSTFs. These materials, composed of micron-sized magnetic particles in a shear thickening carrier fluid, demonstrate both magnetorheological (MR) effects and shear thickening phenomena, offering a multifaceted approach to tailoring material properties for specific engineering needs. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of MRSTFs, paving the way for further innovation in smart materials for diverse engineering applications.
