Abstract
Performance variability is one of the most important facets of behavior for human factors and safety research. Road transport is a complex sociotechnical system (Larsson et al., 2010; Salmon et al., 2012; Salmon and Lenné, 2015). Many components such as road users, vehicles, infrastructure, and the environment interact and circumstances and demands vary. Performance variability is therefore a natural occurrence in road transport.
