Abstract
Reflecting on education, this chapter considers the way toward a transition to and also a sustaining of ecological civilizations. Drawing on a variety of Indigenous approaches, ecological principles, and affective imaginaries, including educational values embedded in the ethics of the Earth Charter, the vision of education for ecological civilizations is fostered and inspired by children’s embodied wisdom as a foundation for learning. In a time when the current state of the world is one of precarity and disenchantment, an argument is made for the hope, for the wonder, for the enchantment, for the caring, and, even, for the joy of being with Earth. A view of education is envisaged that will awaken these positive and powerful emotions. Through knowing and loving the Earth as embodied wisdoms, education for ecological civilizations will help us come to know what it means to be in deep relations with the other-than-human world.
