Deconstructing and Reconstructing Identity: A Transformational Transcontinental Journey
Cross-Fertilizing Roots and Routes, pp.95-107
Palgrave Macmillan
2021
Abstract
This autobiographical scholarly account of a lived experience of a migrant delineates external (route) as well as internal (root) dimensions of a journey resulting in a new transformed image of selfhood. The emerging identity is found to display the features of neo-collectivist consciousness, and is subsequently analysed against the backdrop of macrohistory. In addition, Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) is utilised to deepen the discourse and provide a vertical dimension. The details of traumatic aspects of dislocation of the individual, in both spatial and social spheres, are presented against the backdrop of current socio-political changes.
