Abstract
The main message of this chapter is that the "state-of-the-art" in assessing climate change impacts and adaptation in Pacific island countries has undergone some fundamental changes over the last five years - for the better. This chapter first describes in general terms the switch in perspective that has occurred. It then illustrates through two case studies how this change in perspective is being picked up and applied in the Pacific to infuse adaptation into the development process. [This volume grew out of the Climate Change and Governance Conference held in Wellington, New Zealand, March 28 and 29, 2006.]
