Abstract
When asked about my studies, the term forensic social work often gets a perplexed look and the comment, “I have never heard of that”. My doctoral project is situated in this space, raising awareness of this specialist field of practice and its relevance in Australian social work education. Forensic social work is a social justice endeavour; it sits at the intersection between social work and the criminal justice system. This emerging field of practice requires a practical application of social work values, knowledge, and skills in settings like corrections, forensic mental health, youth justice, and court. My fascination with this specialisation emerged from a place of frustration and discovery within the unique context of Australian social work education.
