Abstract
This native perennial shrub grows up to 3m in height and 3m in diameter. Its natural distribution is in NSW, but it is naturalised in Queensland and Victoria (APSNSW, 2020). The Westringia genus is endemic to Australia (APSNSW, 2020). It has simple, neatly whorled leaves, usually in whorls of 4 (PlantNET 2023). The leaves are a blue to grey green with hair on both sides, their resemblance to rosemary is the reason for its common name (APSNSW, 2020; PlantNET, 2023). There are five petals of varying size in the corolla that are fused at the base, and mostly solitary though sometimes clustered (APSNSW, 2020). The white flowers are obvious and up to 20mm in length (ANBG, 2015). The separation of the calyx into 5 parts is an identification feature of Westringia genus (APSNSW, 2020). Its fruit is only 1-2mm long and presents in clusters of 4 at the base of the flower (APSNSW, 2020). It is resistant to pest and disease (ANBG, 2015; APSNSW, 2020). Fire will kill this species, but it will regenerate by seed (obligate seeder) (APSNSW, 2020).
