Abstract
Native to Queensland and New South Wales, this species, commonly called swamp foxtail, can be found in riparian zones, ditches, swamps and wetlands (Australian Association of Bush Regenerators 2008). The ethanol extract made from the entire P. alopecuroides, which contains antioxidant and antiproliferative effects, demonstrated significant in vitro cytotoxic activity against human lung cancer cell lines in a study in progress that aims to explore its pharmaceutical properties as an alternative to chemotherapy and other toxic therapies to combat the disease (Mathew et al. 2015).
