Abstract
Pararchidendron pruinosum, commonly known as Snow Wood, is a native Australian rainforest tree that generally reaches 15 metres (ANPSA 2013). P. pruinosum is the only species of this genus (ANPSA 2013). The small flowers of P. pruinosum are greenish-white in colour, which turn yellow with age (ANPSA 2013). The flowers appear in summer, occurring on long peduncles forming a cluster of globular heads in the leaf axils and are followed by flattened papery seed pods (ANPSA 2013). P. pruinosum is closely related to Acacia; this is evident in the resemblance of the seeds, which are developed in pods that split when ripe (ANPSA 2013).
P. pruinosum fixes atmospheric nitrogen in soils through its symbiotic relationship with root bacteria through which the bacterial starches are exchanged for nitrogen (ALA 2020).
