Abstract
Pollinated by beetles and hoverflies (Cochrane 2007), bright yellow flowers bloom on this trailing plant in spring and summer (Stewart 2021). Capsules contain the red seeds that are released after the fruit has ripened from the warmer summer period (Cochrane 2007). Rodents and ants consume these seeds (Cochrane 2007), however, it can burn when eaten by humans (Stewart 2021). Nonetheless, the Hibbertia scandens is a bush medicine (Cromb 2017). Creating a paste from the leaves, stems and sap, it is used as an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic cream (Cochrane 2007).
Hibbertia scandens is found in warm to cool sub-tropical climates (Stewart 2021) in lowland and highland rainforest and sclerophyll forest (Australian National Botanic Gardens 2016) along the east coast of Australia (Howes 2020). Soil is sandy and therefore well-drained, however, it tolerates moist, dry and salty conditions (Stewart 2021).
