Abstract
When it comes to quantifying a research method, other disciplines in the academy have a distinct advantage over Creative Writing, given the traditions of qualitative and quantitative analysis. However, these methodologies do not accurately portray the process involved specifically in Creative Writing, since aspects of both research methods can be present in the process of crafting fiction. Therefore, this paper postulates a critical process-based methodology for postgraduate research in the field of Creative Writing. Using the writing of a novel as an example, this paper discusses the research methods for a creative product as the act of writing itself, the notion of inspiration and the research possibilities that arise from it, and conceptual analysis of published fiction as an avenue for research outcomes.
