Abstract
We will present a practical demonstration of the use of 'Clickers' (otherwise known as Keepad, or audience response systems). as well as provide progressive data and analysis from the project run in Semester 2, 2007 entitled "Promoting learning and creating greater learning gains for first year university students through the use of Clickers''. The project entails the use of Clickers in the lectures of two first year courses run here at USC-Human Anatomy and Human Physiology. Consent was gained from students at the start of semester, and the majority of students participated. A survey was conducted early in the semester regarding the types of strategies used by the students, as well as to gain general demographic information. A final survey was given in Week 12 to investigate the students' response to the use of Clickers. Project research questions: Does the use of 'Clicker' technology assist students in increased engagement and therefore enhanced learning outcomes in a lecture setting? In particular: • When used for the same content area (eg Anatomy) is there any difference in successful engagement with the 'Clicker' technology due to the diversity of the student population? " When used for the same population (eg first year students) is there any difference in successful engagement with the 'Clicker' technology due to different content areas (eg Anatomy vs Physiology) Diversity of population includes the consideration of: first in family at university, socioeconomic background, ethnicity, technological experience, gender, year level at university and program of study (nursing, education, sport etc).
