Abstract

Performing Arts and Creative Writing language of childhood child performer contemporary performance theatre childhood
A child onstage creates a very different presence to that of an adult performer. Perhaps as adults we are drawn to them with a sense of responsibility or sentimentality or perhaps it is a fascination with the improbability of the adult-like capacities they sometimes display. Whatever the reason we understand that this special quality that children possess is temporary and with time child performers will become adult performers equipped with a range of skills that replace the unique language of childhood.
