Abstract
The Revolutionary Social Worker: The Love Ethic Model is unique in the social work literature as it presents a guide for how to practice ethically in complex, violent, loveless and unjust situations. Ross extends social work’s domains of concern with the eco-values of nonviolence, love and ecojustice. Ecojustice is inclusive of social, species and environmental justice, which includes sustainability. All three eco-values are enacted through transformational change leadership, engaging parties in trauma informed and dialogical praxis. Ross presents love ethic work as a way to lovingly resist, challenge and change violence, lovelessness and injustice into nonviolence, love and fairness.
This is not a pure theory book, or a toolkit for practice, or a book that analyses social issues. Rather, The Revolutionary Social Worker is about affirming anti-oppressive values and showing how to lovingly apply them in complex practice situations. This is not a book for the weak hearted, as an unwavering belief in the transformatory power of love will be needed. This is an invitation to readers to practice being what Ross refers to as revolutionary love. In many ways, reading this book can be anyone’s first steps towards becoming a revolutionary social worker.
