Abstract

transmedia storytelling narrative cohesion multimodality transmedia writing digital publishing media convergence
This doctorate of Creative Arts, Creative Writing entitled inWünderland includes a novel, mobile phone application and accompanying exegesis. The transmedia novel and exegesis addresses the research question: How can I construct an immersive, cohesive transmedia novel that purposefully weaves multimodal narrative elements across a range of media? A balanced approach between research-led practice and practice-led research, as advocated by Smith & Dean (2009), has been chosen as the methodological approach for undertaking this research question. The practice-led component has resulted in the production of the transmedia novel inWünderland, which encompasses two main components: a book (designed to be read in print or e-Print) and a mobile phone application. My exegesis tracks transmedia discoveries learnt throughout the production of the artefact, using the Practitioner Model of Creative Cognition as advocated by Skains (2018). This combination of a research-led and practice-led approach seeks to make connections with established bodies of research, building upon existing knowledge to present original research findings.
