Abstract
Recovery is one of the basic principles integral to the methodology of current training practices. It addresses issues related to training and competition fatigue in order to promote adaptation to training stress. This means that players can train hard and improve their performances with a reduced risk of training illnesses and injuries from heavy workloads. Performance recovery has two main aims. The first is to monitor a player's adaptive responses to training and stress. The second is to manage and encourage adaptation by selecting and applying specific recovery techniques and strategies to offset training and competition fatigue. The amount of recovery players need will depend on adaptation to the volume and intensity of workloads. and how well players are managing any life stresses. Consequently, a regular monitoring system, such as a training diary and regular coach and player evaluation meetings should be established before the beginning of the training year. If the player is struggling to cope with training, extra recovery strategies may be needed.
