Hysteresis in the monthly Q-TSS relationship was generally clockwise over the course of the monsoon season, but infrequent large dry-season storms disrupted the pattern in some years. The large decrease in annual loads during the study was believed to be related to depletion of fine sediment delivered to the stream by several landslides occurring the year prior to the study. The study indicated the importance of monitoring Q and turbidity at fine resolutions (e.g., sub-hourly) to capture the TSS dynamics and to make accurate load estimations in this flashy headwater stream where hysteresis in the Q-TSS signature varied at several time scales.]]> Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:47:11 AEST ]]> Soil conditions in three recent landslides in Southeast Alaska http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:16071 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:46:58 AEST ]]> Erosion processes in steep terrain - Truths, myths, and uncertainties related to forest management in Southeast Asia http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:16074 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:46:54 AEST ]]> Characteristics of landslides in unwelded pyroclastic flow deposits, southern Kyushu, Japan http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:17602 200 mm) storms that triggered landslides was much lower than for smaller (≤ 200 mm) storms. Mean storm intensity and antecedent 7 day rainfall (API7) thresholds of > 5 mm h-1 and ≤ 30 mm (or API30 ≤ 60 mm), respectively, were useful to identify landslides triggered by rapid pore water pressure response, especially for shorter (< 20 h) duration events. During smaller storms with lower intensity, landslides are likely affected by a combined increase in soil weight and loss of suction when API30 ≥ 150 mm; simulations indicated that these weight and suction changes due to rainfall accumulation decreased factor of safety in steep Shirasu slopes, but did not necessarily trigger the landslides. All but two of the 21 landslides that plotted below a general rainfall intensity-duration threshold for landslide initiation had API30 values > 235 mm, indicating that they were highly influenced by the combined effects of the accumulated weight of rainfall and loss of suction. Our findings show that both event rainfall characteristics and antecedent conditions affect the hydrogeomorphic processes that trigger different types of landslides in Shirasu. This knowledge and the thresholds we have identified are useful for predicting the occurrence of different types of landslides in Shirasu deposits and improving sediment disaster prevention practices, including real-time warning systems.]]> Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:46:52 AEST ]]> Vadose zone process that control landslide initiation and debris flow propagation http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:17145 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:46:38 AEST ]]> Mass Movement http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:23128 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:46:31 AEST ]]> Pore water pressure assessment in a forest watershed: Simulations and distributed field measurements related to forest practices http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:15890 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:46:24 AEST ]]> Internal erosion during soil pipeflow: State of the science for experimental and numerical analysis http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:15064 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:45:58 AEST ]]> The dilemma of mountain roads http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:15067 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:45:44 AEST ]]> The influence of plant root systems on subsurface flow: Implications for slope stability http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:15074 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:45:31 AEST ]]> Ecosystem changes following the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes in Japan: Future perspectives http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:24900 Fri 14 Jun 2019 13:45:25 AEST ]]>
