postharvest wastage in three municipal fruit and vegetable markets in Fiji http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:15388 15% wastage) was observed in okra and chili. Postharvest losses were due to a combination of postharvest diseases, poor pre-market grading, and postharvest desiccation. Overall mean postharvest wastage for all markets was 2.17%. Compared to previous postharvest supply chain studies in other transitional economies, municipal market postharvest horticultural wastage in Fiji is low. This is thought to be the result of short transport distances, a fast-to-market supply chain and high-throughput market vendor trading negating much of the potential impacts associated with poor postharvest handling practices. Postharvest wastage was mainly observed on arrival at the markets consistent with on-farm and transport stresses being key contributory factors. Although market geographic propinquity to the major horticultural production regions has the potential to influence postharvest wastage, spatial price efficiency and accessibility to commercial transport logistic that appear to favour the more distant central markets, are thought to negate any potential impact.]]> Thu 13 Jun 2019 13:48:03 AEST ]]> Developing Horticultural Quality Management Systems in Fiji http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:7610 Thu 13 Jun 2019 13:47:39 AEST ]]> Promoting sustainable and inclusive oceans management in Pacific islands through women and science http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:30071 Thu 09 Jan 2020 14:39:45 AEST ]]> Nature and Chronology of Prehistoric Settlement on the Vatia Peninsula, Northern Viti Levu Island, Fiji http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:12655 Mon 25 Nov 2019 15:22:37 AEST ]]> Smallholder farmer perceptions of postharvest loss and its determinants in Fijian tomato value chains http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:29901 Mon 18 Nov 2019 12:20:46 AEST ]]> How sea-level and climate change affect island people: Examples from Yadua Island, Fiji http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:28097 Mon 04 Feb 2019 10:36:05 AEST ]]> Postharvest physical risk factors along the tomato supply chain: a case study in Fiji http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:29994 Mon 02 Dec 2019 11:16:42 AEST ]]> Vatutāqiri: An Immense Stone-walled Fortification on the Vatia Peninsula, Northern Viti Levu Island, Fiji http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:15387 Fri 30 Aug 2019 13:38:44 AEST ]]> Forgotten citadels: Fiji’s ancient hill forts and what we can learn from them http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:29752 Fri 25 Oct 2019 12:56:40 AEST ]]> An assessment of factors associated with increased productivity of dairy farms in Fiji. http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:5286 Fri 23 Aug 2019 14:25:08 AEST ]]> Barriers to market for subsistence farmers in Fiji – A gendered perspective http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:25510 Fri 22 Feb 2019 11:20:43 AEST ]]> Fijian adolescents’ understanding and evaluation of climate change: Implications for enabling effective future adaptation http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:25727 Fri 10 Jan 2020 14:35:22 AEST ]]> Sustainable financing of a national Marine Protected Area network in Fiji http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:26748 Fri 08 Feb 2019 10:26:27 AEST ]]> Design of an image map poster for the tourist industry in Fiji http://research.usc.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/usc:1159 Fri 07 Nov 2014 13:01:26 AEST ]]>
