- Description
- Students in ENG203, Programming for Engineers, often provide feedback that they don’t understand the content presented, or that the tutorials provided are not a level they can understand. To address this identified short-coming an assessment item was developed that required the students to construct animated tutorials of at least two programming elements, one in Visual Basic for Applications in Excel and the other in the R programming language. The students were required to use an engineering problem to demonstrate the use of the selected programming elements. The tutorials could be constructed using any software the student choose (eg. narrated powerpoint, video or animation within Excel and/ or RStudio). In the tutorials, the students were required to describe important concepts, such as naming variables and setting control structure parameters (ie Loops and IF statements). The students were advised that the audience for this tutorial were their class mates. Individual items were required for assessment, but students could work together in groups of up to four.
