- Author/Creator

- Description
- The Noosa River is considered to be the most pristine river in SEQ, so the mystery of episodic pulses of high nutrients were of concern and impacted on river health as well as raised issues over management of the river. There was considerable public debate and finger pointing as to who or what was to blame! So, a study of the episodic, elevated levels of nutrients in the Noosa River has been ongoing for several years and has involved several staff and students at USC, together with collaborators from other universities, government agencies, local council and the community. The multi-year, multi-disciplinary study has narrowed down the source of pollutants and has important land-use and management implications and ongoing actions. The study was also an outstanding example of collaboration between research institutions, agencies and the local community. Community engagement, participation and education were key achievements. The presentation will cover the unravelling of the mystery and the achievements of the collaboration!
