Purpose of the Coast Research Database
The purpose of the Coast Research Database is to showcase and make accessible the research output of the University to local, national and international communities. This will maximise impact for individual USC researchers and highlight the overall research profile of the University.
Coast Research Database Collection Development Statement
The purpose of the Repository Collection Development Statement is to define and describe the purpose and content of the repository and provide a general framework against which current and future collection decisions can be made.
- Material to be included in the collection
- DEST reportable publications produced by University staff
- Journal articles
- Conference papers
- Book chapters
- Theses accepted for graduate or honours degrees
- Reports - technical or project
- Datasets
- Images
- Documentation of creative works
- Working papers - reviewed
- Discussion papers - reviewed
- Material to be excluded from the collection
- Material intended for commercialisation (a citation may be added to the repository with details of who to contact for access to the full-text document)
- Materials which contain confidential content (a citation may be added to the repository with details of who to contact for access to the full-text document)
- Teaching materials
- Administrative materials
- Materials which, if disseminated by the repository would infringe a legal obligation of the University and/or the author/s or the legal rights of the third party (a citation may be added to the repository with details of who to contact for access to the full-text document)
- Copyright and contractual compliance
- Collection decisions and material use and access conditions are to be determined subject to copyright law and any contractual provisions between the author and their employer, publisher and/or any funding organisation associated with creation of the material.
- Authorised Contributors
At least one author of the research should be affiliated with the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Authorised contributors include:
- USC Teaching and Research Staff (including adjunct staff)
- USC Students
- USC Administrative, Professional and Technical Staff
- Quality Assurance
As the material in the collection will have a bearing on the reputation of the University, all material included should meet acceptable standards of intellectual quality.
The collection will only contain material that satisfies one of the following criteria:
- DEST reportable publication
- Material that can be demonstrated to have undergone a recognised peer review process
- Other material produced by academic staff and approved by the relevant Dean, Cost Centre Manager or delegate
- Material forming the whole or part of work examined and accepted for a university graduate research or coursework degree
- Editorial Rights
- The Repository Manager will retain the right to exclude any item submitted that does not meet Collection Development Statement requirements
- The Repository Manager will be able to return items for amendments for technical and indexing purposes, determine accessibility based on copyright agreements, and convert files to commonly used formats
